Heart to Heart is committed to providing continuing support to birth parents and adoptive families after placement. Heart to Heart has a Post Placement Department that handles communication between birth parents and adoptive families. This includes forwarding packages, pictures and letters to the birthmother from the adoptive family and vice versa, setting up and supporting conference calls between birth parents and adoptive families and facilitating visits. In addition we offer the following services and support in an effort to fulfill the special needs of everyone involved in the adoption process.
For Birth Parents:
An individualized post placement packet is sent to the birthmother after placement. This packet includes information on how to contact the post placement department with any questions regarding communication with the adoptive family including pictures, letters, or phone calls. It also can include information on grief and loss issues and how to cope with placing a child. We will assist in finding local support groups, adoptions groups, and counselors in the area that can help with the grieving process. Our licensed counselors are always available by phone to birthmothers who live outside of Utah. Our birth mothers are encouraged to call their counselors here at Heart to Heart anytime if they feel they need to talk to someone about the adoption. As well as counseling by phone, Heart to Heart will help with a local counselor to support each birth mother in related to placing a child for adoption.
For Adoptive Families:
A post placement packet is sent to the adoptive family approximately 2 weeks after placement. This packet includes information on parenting the adopted child, transracial adoption, hair care for transracial adoptees, and financial and tax information. For families who may be struggling with the transition, our counselors are always available by phone, or in person if possible, to support and guide you through this process. We will also assist in finding local resources in your area that may be helpful to you, including adoption groups, transracial adoption groups and counselors to meet your needs.
