No matter what type of adoption you are choosing, you will be required to have a home study completed.

A home study is a tool for you and the agency to determine your readiness to adopt. Heart to Heart Adoptions has a licensed clinical social worker that is experienced in adoption conduct our home studies in the Salt Lake City, Utah area.

We encourage those who do not live in the our agency’s area to choose someone who is licensed, experienced, and reliable to complete your home study. While there is no set format for the home studies, everyone must follow the state regulations of the state they live in. The home study is a written report that compiles information from interviews with the adoptive family, home visits, and supporting documentation (i.e. back ground checks, licenses, medical reports, etc.)

The home study process can take three to six months. Fortunately,  Heart to Heart Adoptions is able to help Utah families complete their home study in four to six weeks.

Information included in a home study will often include the following:
  •  Autobiographical information about the adoptive family and their extended family
  • Financial stability and history as well as insurance coverage
  •  Community, neighborhood, and home information
  •  Physical and mental health
  •  Criminal background checks
  •  References
  •  Parenting experience, style, discipline
  • Views on adoption, birth parents, type of child desired, and openness options
  •  Education and preparedness
  •  Discussion about past trauma/infertility that may affect their emotional readiness.
